UPDATE: Detective Pikachu Gets Release Date

UPDATE:: Legendary Pictures has revealed that the Detective Pikachu live-action movie will be dropping on May 10, 2019. The films is set to star Ryan Reynolds as the titular Pokémon investigator. The original story is below.

By Robert Marrujo:: Apparently being a beloved comic book character isn't enough for Ryan Reynolds—according to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is now set to star in the Detective Pikachu movie as the nominal Pokémon. Previous reports had circulated stating that multiple other actors, including Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Hugh Jackman, and others, were being considered for the part. Now, THR has confirmed that Reynolds, who was amongst those being targeted, has officially signed on.

The story revolves around a young man, played by The Get Down's Justice Smith, whose father is abducted. In an effort to track him down, Smith's character turns to Detective Pikachu for help. The movie will be directed by Rob Letterman (Goosebumps). There's no word of a release date yet, but we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, let us know what you think of the casting!
