The prequel to Old Man Logan!
By Robert Marrujo:: Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's 2008 Old Man Logan storyline for Marvel Comics was one heck of a run. Spanning Wolverine #66-72 and the Wolverine Giant-Size Old Man Logan Special, the story focused on a post-apocalyptic Marvel Universe where the bad guys won and the superheroes were all either killed off, sent into hiding, or rendered useless. It's a fairly seminal take on Logan, so much so that Fox's Logan film is considered to have taken much of its thematic elements from the story.
A big part of the fun of Old Man Logan came from Wolverine's tentative partnership/friendship with longtime Avenger Clint Barton, AKA Hawkeye. Despite being rendered blind due to glaucoma, Clint remained intent on making a cross country trek in an attempt to reclaim his youth and strength but is subsequently betrayed and killed. It's this iteration of the famous archer who will be starring in a new prequel to Millar and McNiven's story, dubbed Old Man Hawkeye.
The reveal was made by The New York Daily News, whose own reporter Ethan Sacks will be penning the 12-issue miniseries. Joined with artist Marco Checchetto, Sacks had this to say about the plot:
"In this story, he's losing his vision and that sort of forces him to confront something really horrible that happened to him personally 45 years ago, and go on his own hero's journey while he still can. It's very much like a ticking clock that's forcing him into action."
Old Man Hawkeye #1 is slated to release in January of 2018. Are you on board for this prequel? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
