By Robert Marrujo:: Fox's The X-Files will be back for its eleventh (and potentially final, more on that below) season, set to debut in 2018. Check out the trailer below:
Lots of drama and intrigue await in Season 11. Series creator Chris Carter had quite a bit to spill about what fans can expect, including:
- Mulder and Scully's kid William who was put up for adoption 14 years ago.
- "Kissing close" relationship between Scully and Mulder.
- The Smoking Man, young and with an alien, as seen in the trailer, will be delved into in great detail.
Season 11 is expected to have ten episodes, much more than Season 10's truncated six entries. Fans might be sad to hear that this season could potentially be the definitive end for the series, or at least the end of it with star Gillian Anderson in tow.
According to Screen Rant, Anderson said the following at a reporter roundtable:
"Are you still open to continuing on beyond this season?
Gillian Anderson: No, no, I think this will be it for me.
So, why did you want to do this season?
Gillian Anderson: Because it felt like it wasn’t over. It didn’t feel like we necessarily deliver everything the fans were expecting of us last time, and so it was that.
How much will you miss her if this is really it for you?
Gillian Anderson: I don’t know. You may need to talk to me in a few years about that once I finally shut the door. You know, there’s always been this “maybe one more” thing hanging over, but when the door is finally shut, call me up and ask me that question again."
Screen Rant has updated their original story with the following quote from Fox:
"Gillian Anderson 'has not commented on returning as it’s premature in that she is currently filming the new event series.'"
While we likely won't know for a while whether Anderson is definitely done as Scully, there's plenty to anticipate when The X-Files Season 11 arrives in 2018.
