Nintendo Arcade Archives Revealed For Switch

Mario Bros. is first out the gates this month!

By Robert Marrujo:: Nintendo's lack of a Virtual Console with the launch of Switch has been a major buzzkill. Thankfully, companies like Hamster have been providing retro-goodness in the form of its Arcade Archives lineup, which has brought classics like Metal Slug, The King of Fighters, and more to Nintendo's hybrid console. With Wednesday's Direct broadcast, sadly there was no word on Virtual Console making its debut on the system, but there was some sign of hope offered in the form of the Nintendo's own Arcade Archives line.

Arcade Archives looks to bring a number of Nintendo's "VS." arcade titles to Switch. The VS. System line was a series of arcade cabinets that Nintendo fitted with hardware based on NES but was more powerful. The games predominantly offered titles pulled from the NES library but with differences like harder difficulties and dedicated one-on-one competition. During its last Nintendo Direct broadcast the company revealed that these games will be making their way to Switch. Here's a list of what's to come:

  • Mario Bros.
  • Vs. Super Mario Bros.
  • Vs. Balloon Fight
  • Vs. Ice Climber
  • Vs. Pinball
  • Vs. Clu Clu Land
  • Vs. Punch-Out!!

First up to bat is Mario Bros. on September 27. No pricing has been revealed nor any kind of timeframe for when the other games might land. It's an intriguing lineup, particularly because Vs. Clu Clu Land has never been released here in the West. More as it develops!
