John Carpenter Explains Jamie Lee Curtis’ Return in New Halloween Film

Because she's supposed to be dead, right?!

By Robert Marrujo:: There's much anticipation surrounding John Carpenter's upcoming Halloween sequel starring Jamie Lee Curtis, but one burning question fans have is how the heck her character is even still alive. Curtis played Laurie Stroud in the original and was eventually killed off by her older brother Michael Myers in 2001's Halloween: Resurrection. That doesn't leave a whole lot of wiggle room for Curtis to be back for the new Halloween.

Speaking with Stereogum in a Q&A, Carpenter had this to say:

"I don’t know how to describe it. It’s almost an alternative reality. It picks up after the first one and it pretends that none of the other [sequels] were made.”

There's decades of history behind the Halloween franchise, so now might be the time for some pruning to clear things up for a new generation of viewers. The movie is getting high praise from Carpenter, at least, who says he's tempted to potentially create some new music for the reboot.

The new Halloween is expected to release on October 19, 2019.
