The duo will write and produce films set in a galaxy far, far away!
By Robert Marrujo:: Fans of HBO's Game of Thrones might be interested to know that the showrunners for that series will be hopping ship from Westeros to Disney's Star Wars franchise once the last season of the aforementioned TV show is completed. Lucasfilm made the announcement via StarWars.com that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have officially become part of the Star Wars family. The pair's films will be separate from both the mainline series as well as beleaguered director Rian Johnson's announced trilogy.
“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since,” Benioff and Weiss were quoted as saying in the announcement. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.” There's no word on when their Star Wars films will hit theaters, but it's certainly exciting to hear that the masterminds behind a show of as high a quality as Game of Thrones will be turning their attention to Star Wars.
