BlizzCon 2017: Starcraft II Going Free-to-Play

The entirety of the Wings of Liberty campaign will be yours for the taking very soon.

By Robert Marrujo:: Blizzard announced today that RTS game Starcraft II will be going free-to-play as of November 14. Players will be able to download and play the entire baseline Wings of Liberty campaign, while those who already own it will be given Heart of the Swarm free of charge. Incoming free-to-play users will have unfettered access to the ranked online leaderboards, as well as access to co-op commanders up to Level 5.

Players of yore will have something new to look forward to in case this announcement wasn't enough to pique their interest: new co-op commander duo Han and Horner will part of the re-release. The pair promise a combination of explosiveness and precision, making their inclusion a welcome addition for those who've already played and beaten Starcraft II. The game might be seven years old, but it continues to have a supportive community behind it, so fans who didn't get in on it the first time now have a second, risk-free chance to give Starcraft II a whirl.
